Your Guide to Becoming a Balanced Body® Comprehensive Pilates Instructor
If you’ve been thinking about becoming a Pilates instructor — or you’re ready to take your teaching to the next level — the Balanced Body Comprehensive Instructor Training is one of the most respected and structured pathways in the industry.
Let’s break it down in a clear, friendly way so you know exactly what to expect.
Step 1: Pilates Course Work
Your journey begins with building a strong foundation. Balanced Body’s curriculum is designed to be progressive — each module builds on the next.
Movement Principles & Pilates Essentials
(Includes video and in-class practical)
This is intended to be your first course.
It lays the groundwork for understanding:
Alignment
Breath mechanics
Core integration
Foundational movement patterns
In some cases, an educator may allow you to begin with Mat 1 or Reformer 1, but Movement Principles is designed to set you up for success from the start.
Mat Courses
Mat 1 – Foundations
Mat 2 – Advanced Mat
Mat 3 – Props
Mat 1 is one of your beginning movement courses. Each Mat module builds in complexity and must be taken in order.
You’ll move from foundational exercises to advanced variations and creative prop work — building confidence in cueing, sequencing, and programming.
Reformer Courses
Reformer 1 – Introduction to Reformer
Reformer 2 – Deepening Reformer Skills
Reformer 3 – Advanced Reformer
Reformer 1 is your other possible starting point.
Just like the Mat series, the Reformer modules must be taken in numerical order.
You’ll progress from basic set-ups and foundational exercises to advanced choreography and refined teaching skills.
Apparatus Courses
App 1 – Introduction to Trapeze Table, Chair & Barrels
App 2 – Deepening Trap, Chair & Barrels Knowledge
App 3 – Advanced Trap, Chair & Barrels
You may also take individual apparatus modules:
Trapeze Table
Chair
Barrels
Important: To begin Apparatus training, you must complete Mat 1 and Reformer 1 first.
Anatomy Requirement
You must complete either:
Balanced Body Anatomy
ORAn approved equivalent (minimum 12 hours)
